The Challenge

Build a premium desktop ambient lighting experience for Windows that works without specialized hardware — a layer-based rendering platform with GPU acceleration, configurable edge lighting, and a professional dashboard interface.

The Approach

Designed a modular architecture with separate engines for overlay management, layer processing, and GPU rendering. Built with C# / WinUI 3 / Direct2D following MVVM pattern. Engine-first approach: core rendering engine built before feature layers.

What We Built

  • →Core rendering engine (Overlay Engine + Layer Engine + GPU Renderer)
  • →Edge lighting system (4 edges, 4 styles, 3 animations)
  • →WinUI 3 dashboard with sidebar navigation
  • →Preset system (4 built-in + custom user presets)
  • →Multi-monitor support with per-monitor DPI awareness
  • →OpenRGB hardware integration (WebSocket JSON-RPC 2.0 bridge)
  • →Performance targets: 60 FPS, <50MB RAM, <2% CPU idle
  • →Product Requirements Document (comprehensive)
  • →Development roadmap (10 phases, 6-8 week timeline)
